New release of Minitab statistical software aims to makes powerful data analysis techniques accessible to everyone.
February 18, 2014
STATE COLLEGE, Pa.-- Minitab, LLC. today released Minitab 17 Statistical Software, the newest version of the leading software used for quality improvement and statistics education.
Minitab 17 offers new functionality and other enhancements designed to make statistical analysis easier, and to give quality improvement professionals greater insight into their processes. In particular, it expands the reach of the Assistant, a feature that guides users through their analysis and helps them interpret their results.
“When you use Minitab, you don’t need to be intimidated by statistics,” says Michelle Paret, product marketing manager. “Even if you don’t have a statistical background, you can be confident you’re analyzing your data appropriately by using the Assistant."
“When we introduced the Assistant in Minitab 16, customers told us how helpful it is and gave us great ideas for making it even better,” she says. “We’ve incorporated many of those suggestions into our latest release.”
The Assistant in Minitab 17 includes two new analyses: Design of Experiments (DOE) and Multiple Regression. It also includes extensive improvements to Graphical Analysis and enhancements for the statistics it already covered, including Measurement Systems Analysis, Capability Analysis, Hypothesis Tests, and Control Charts.
Minitab 17 also introduces powerful new tools for regression analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA). A new interface lets users quickly specify predictor variables, and automatic model selection makes identifying important variables easy. A wider range of graphical options offer more ways to visually explore results, while the response optimizer makes it easy to find the optimal settings for process variables.
Minitab 17 also introduces enhanced DOE capabilities to help users more effectively determine factors and interactions affecting their processes. The response optimizer can be applied to general factorial designs in Minitab 17, and response surface designs can include categorical factors. In addition, automatic model selection is available for both factorial and response surface designs.
Other new features in Minitab 17 include:
Minitab 17 is also the company’s first software to be released in Portuguese. “Every part of the software has been translated, from the statistics and the interface to the Assistant and all Help content,” Paret notes.
Because it has been adopted by companies around the globe, Minitab 17 is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean as well. Documentation is available in several other languages.
