Determining the Host ID for Minitab License Manager

The following instructions will allow you to determine the host ID of a machine hosting a Minitab License Manager. This information only applies to multi-user licenses of Minitab products using the Minitab License Manager.

You can determine the host ID of the host machine by using the ipconfig command, or running the lmhostid utility on the machine

To use the ipconfig command to determine the host ID (MAC address):

  1. From the Windows Taskbar, choose Start > Run.

  2. At Open:, type cmd and click OK to open a command prompt window.

  3. At the command prompt, type: ipconfig /all and press [Enter].

The host ID (MAC address) appears after Physical Address as a combination of 12 letters and numbers with a dash after every 2 characters. Example: 00-13-72-9A-56-E5. Use the Physical Address that appears under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection.

To use the lmhostid utility to determine the host ID (MAC address):

  1. Download lmhostid.exe. Make a note of the path to where you save the file.

  2. From the Windows Taskbar, choose Start > Run.

  3. At Open:, type cmd and click OK to open a command prompt window.

  4. At the command prompt, type: fully qualified pathlmhostid and press [Enter].
For example, if you have saved the file to C:\download\files, type: c:\downloads\files\lmhostid

Note: If the name of any folder in the path includes a space, you must type a quote mark before the path and after the filename.
For example, if you have saved the file in C:\documents and settings\files, type: "c:\documents and settings\files\lmhostid"

The window will display the host ID: The FLEXlm host id of this machine is "host ID"
