Minitab Course Selection Guide
The following guidelines will help you select the right Minitab training course to meet your needs.
To participate effectively in our courses you must be able to use a mouse and comfortably navigate in a Windows environment. If your computer experience is limited, you may want to take a Windows course before joining us.
Also, while we don't expect you to be a statistician, we do assume that you have a working knowledge of basic statistical concepts. Our instructors will reinforce and expand on these concepts using practical examples that relate to your work, but they won't have time to teach them.
If a course lists prerequisite classes, it builds on the concepts covered in those classes and your understanding of them is essential. If you feel reluctant to take a prerequisite class because of your level of experience, know that many participants have reported learning new skills in our basic courses even after having used Minitab for years.
If you do feel you have the skills to skip a prerequisite class, please call us — we can help you assess whether or not taking the class will be a valuable use of your time. Ultimately the decision to skip a prerequisite class is yours, but please realize that our instructors can't stop a class to answer questions about statistical concepts that have already been covered.
When choosing between our Manufacturing Quality and Service Quality series, you should first consider the kind of work you do. While we cover many of the same statistical techniques in both series, we use noticeably different examples.
The Manufacturing Quality courses and materials were specially designed for attendees who analyze data in settings such as the automotive industry, chemical production plants, and other companies involved in manufacturing. Some of the metrics used in the Manufacturing Quality course examples include diameters, pressure, and hardness.
We designed our Service Quality courses for professionals in financial services, human resource departments and other areas that use metrics such as time, defect rates, and revenue data. Compared to the Manufacturing Quality materials, many more examples in the Service Quality materials highlight ways to analyze categorical (count) data rather than continuous (measurement) data. Companies that have requested Minitab training using the Service Quality materials include: GE Capital, First Data, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Bon Secours Health System, and Bank of America.
