This error primarily occurs on computers that have the Microsoft AppLocale utility installed. For a possible work-around, please do the following:
1. Choose Start > Run. Type Regedit.
2. Browse to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Custom.
3. Expand the Custom folder, then right-click on the MSIEXEC folder beneath it and choose Export.
4. Type the name backup and save the file to an easily accessible location such as your Desktop.
5. Right-click on the MSIEXEC again and choose Delete.
6. Close the Registry Editor and then run the Minitab installation again.
7. After the install completes successfully, you can re-add the registry key that was deleted by double-clicking the backup.reg file.
